This week La Farga has signed an accord with ALSTOM for one of the most important railway electrification in India. The project, which is part of the EASTERN DEDICATED FREIGHT CORRIDOR, is 343 km of double-track railway electrification from Bhaupur to Khurja. With over 200 years of history, La Farga, flagship of the Catalan metal industry, has recently launched its CAC (Copper Alloy Conductor) product, used for medium, high and very high voltage lines. The new conductor, designed and manufactured 100% in its factory in Les Masies de Voltregà (Osona), incorporates a coating that improves its mechanical and electrical performance in respect of standard aluminium or aluminium/steel conductors, facilitating the efficient and safe transport of energy.

The group has been exclusively devoted to the manufacture of semi-finished copper products for many years. The raw material mostly comes from scrap collected in Europe, the USA and North Africa. Through a smelting process to recover the metal and remove impurities, copper rod is obtained, an eight-millimetre-diameter copper wire that is sold to other companies to manufacture end products. The process is patented and the technology has already been sold to 30 factories all over the world.

La Farga is installing copper in the French High-Speed Train for 20 million

The steelmaking group La Farga, 50% of which is controlled by the Guixà and Fisas families, has been awarded a 20 million euro contract to supply copper wire for the new railway lines for the French high-speed train linking the cities of Tours and Bordeaux. In particular, Cegelec Mobility, the company responsible for supplying the catenary equipment, has asked La Farga to be responsible for the copper alloys for the new South Europe-Atlantic high-speed line, covering a distance of 300 kilometres. The line will be operational in 2017.
